BASILICA OF ST. JOSAPHAT – PORTICO
The entry to this historic site was gloomy and unsafe, illuminated only by streetlight. Photo-realistic renderings confirmed the lighting equipment, their location and the aesthetic composition, and helped the Basilica to raise funds.
The design strategy was for the custom period-style lanterns to appear as the source for all illumination. Graze fixtures sculpt the details above the doors to reinforce that strategy. Stair treads are lit by linear LEDs hidden at the Portico ceiling, aimed forward for contrast, with louvers to reduce brightness.
Bell Tower fixtures have a unique spray distribution that fills each arch, positioned forward to softly glow on tower facades. The Statue & Crosses are lit with narrow spots from inside towers to reinforce the glow from within, utilizing linear lenses to sculpt each statue’s details.
