POTAWATOMI CASINO – WELCOME WALL
IIDA Award of Merit
Two-hundred and fourteen 4’x8’ glass panels form a curved Welcome Wall that visitors walk through at this casino’s entry. A cavity behind each frosted glass panel is backlit from a LED color-changing flood, while a pair of LED color-changing pixels aiming directly at the glass provide variety and 3d depth, for a direct, punchy view of continual layers of color. A resolution in scale with the wall results from the combination of wash and pixilation.
Each of the 642 fixtures are individually programmable for a highly kinetic display that greets patrons with excitement and anticipation. Computerized abstract routines suggest realistic fire or rain, dynamic patterns in color plays, slow flows, jackpots of gold, explosions, color palettes, spirals, and a multitude of rhythms. The experience continues while crossing the pedestrian bridge, as colored “sticks” in the ceiling dance and flow in choreography with the wall. Even with so much animation and vibrancy, LED technology allows for the greatest possible efficiency and minimal maintenance.
