SUMMERFEST – BMO STAGE
IA Award of Merit
The new open air pavilion at the world’s largest music festival has a stunningly complex roof structure that covers seating for over 5,000. The designers wanted to articulate and enhance this 3D structure and knew programmable color would greatly add to the entertainment experience. Ceiling lighting was achieved through RGB-LED floodlights which double as white light through programmed settings when appropriate. Aisle lighting was cleverly accomplished from overhead with very-narrow spot LED bullets, equipped with linear spread lenses positioned to project light along aisles without hitting seating. Custom-made work light strings equipped with LED bulbs provide a festive marquee over standing room and approach. The proscenium wall was expressed with angled pinspots and LED color wash.
Lighting enhanced the pavilion’s unique lake view through the stage. Colorful articulation of roof and wall adds to crowd anticipation and excitement. Pre-programmed settings offer theme animations, including sports and sponsor color palettes, and included minimum illuminance for life safety. This was all accomplished with a versatile, efficient lighting system that is almost maintenance free and consumes 83% less energy than anticipated.
